#  New Criticism Shifts Focus from Author to Text

❶  Texts must be interpreted, that is, analyzed for both explicit and implicit meanings.

❷ Since it is impossible to know with any certainty what an author intends, one alternative is to discount the intentions of the author and concentrate on whatever meaning the text generates.

❸ As D. H. Lawrence famously declared, "Never trust the teller, trust the tale.”

❹ New Criticism in the twentieth century would reject the notion that deciphering an author's intention is a central goal of literature.

❺ Literature, they argued, is not a secret message planted by the author to be decoded but a dynamic field of multiple meanings, generated because of, despite, and indeed regardless of the author.

❻ In this model, literature is a textual world that the author has set in motion but does not control; the reader controls the text through interpretation.

 

 

 

 

 

# 새로운 비평, 문학 해석의 중심을 저자에서 텍스트로 이동

 

❶ 텍스트는 해석되어야, 즉 명시적 의미와 함축적 의미 모두에 대해 분석되어야 한다. 

❷ 저자가 의도하는 것을 확실히 알 수 없기 때문에, 저자의 의도를 무시하고 텍스트가 생성하는 어떤 의미에든 집중하는 것이 하나의 대안이다. 

❸ D. H. Lawrence가 한 유명한 말처럼, "말하는 사람을 믿지 말고 이야기를 믿어라.” 

❹ 20세기 신(新)비평은 저자의 의도를 해독하는 것이 문학의 중심 목표라는 개념을 거부할 것이다.  

❺ 그들은 문학이 해독하도록 저자가 심어 놓은 비밀 메시지가 아니라, 저자로 인하여, 저자도 모르게, 실제로 저자와 상관없이 생성되는 다중 의미의 역동적인 장이라고 주장했다.

❻ 이 모형에서, 문학은 저자가 시동을 걸었지만 통제하지 않는 텍스트 세계이고, 독자는 해석을 통해 그 텍스트를 통제한다.
