[ Benefits of an official interrogator during class ] 

❶ Every day in each of my classes I randomly select two students who are given the title of “official questioners.”

❷ These students are assigned the responsibility to ask at least one question during that class.

❸ After being the day’s official questioner, one of my students, Carrie, visited me in my office.

❹ Just to break the ice, I asked in a lighthearted way, “Did you feel honored to be named one of the first ‘official questioners’ of the semester?” 

❺ In a serious tone, she answered that she’d been extremely nervous when I appointed her at the beginning of class.   

❻ But then, during that class, she felt differently from how she’d felt during other lectures. 

❼ It was a lecture just like the others, but this time, she said, she was forced to have a higher level of consciousness; she was more aware of the content of the lecture and discussion.     

❽ She also admitted that as a result, she got more out of that class.

 

 

 

 

 

[ 수업 중 공식 질문자가 얻게 되는 이점 ]

❶ 매일, 수업 시간마다 나는 무작위로 ‘공식 질문자’의 칭호를 부여받는 두 명의 학생을 정한다.

❷ 이 학생들에게는 그 수업 시간 동안 최소한 하나의 질문을 해야 하는 책임이 부여된다. 

❸ 나의 학생 중 한 명인 Carrie는 그 날의 공식 질문자가 된 후 사무실로 나를 찾아왔다.

❹ 나는 그냥 서먹서먹한 분위기를 깨려고 쾌활하게 “이번 학기 첫 번째  ‘공식 질문자’ 중 한 명으로 지명되어 영광이었니?”라고 물었다. 

❺ 그녀는 진지한 어조로, 수업이 시작 될 때 내가 자기를 (공식 질문자로) 지명했을 때 매우 긴장했다고 말했다.

❻ 하지만 그 후 그 수업 동안에 그녀는 다른 강의에서 느꼈던 것과는 아주 다른 느낌이 들었다. 

❼ 그 강의는 다른 강의들과 비슷했지만, 그녀는 이번에 더욱 높은 의식 수준을 가져야 했고, 강의와 토론의 내용을 더 잘 알게 되었다고 말했다.

❽ 또한 결과적으로 자기가 그 수업으로부터 더 많은 것을 얻게 되었다고 인정했다.
