01  On August 5, 2010, at around lunch break, miners↶(who were) digging for copper and gold started to feel vibrations in the earth. 

 

02  Almost immediately after the vibrations began, they heard a sudden huge explosion, and the whole mine filled up with dust and rock. 

 

03  A massive piece of the nearby mountain had broken off, burying almost all the layers of the mine.

 

 

04  For seventeen days after the initial collapse, there was no word on their fate. 

 

05  As the days passed, Chileans grew increasingly uncertain that↝ any of the miners had survived. 

 

06  A small exploratory hole was drilled on August 22, and the camera captured a message↶that said, "We are still alive." 

 

07  It was the first sign of hope. 

 

08  Soon, a video camera was sent down 700 meters deep and captured the first images of the miners, all clearly in good health. 

 

09  The discovery sparked joyful celebrations nationwide, and rescue efforts gave a light of hope(=)that the miners could be saved.

05  날이 갈수록 칠레인들은 광부들 중 누구라도 살아남아 있을 가능성에   대해 점점 더 확신하지 못하게 되었다. 

06  8월 22일에 작은 탐색용 구멍이 뚫렸고, 카메라가 “우리는 아직 살아 있다.”라고 쓰인 메시지를 포착했다. 

07  그것은 희망의 첫 신호였다. 

08  곧이어 비디오카메라 한 대가 700미터 아래로 보내졌고 광부들의 이미지를 처음으로 포착했는데, 모두 확실히 건강 상태가 양호했다. 

09  이 발견은 칠레 전역에 즐거운 축하를 불러일으켰고, 구조 노력은 광부들이 구조될 수도 있다는 한 줄기 희망의 빛을 주었다.
