❶   It’s important that you think independently and fight for what you believe in, but there comes a time when it’s wiser to stop fighting for your view and move on to accepting what a trustworthy group of people think is best. 

 

 

❷    This can be extremely difficult. 

 

 

❸     But it’s smarter, and ultimately better for you to be open­minded and have faith that the conclusions of a trustworthy group of people are better than whatever you think. 

 

 

 

❹    If you can’t understand their view, you’re probably just blind to their way of thinking. 

 

❺    If you continue doing what you think is best when all the evidence and trustworthy people are against you, you’re being dangerously confident. 

 

❻    The truth is that while most people can become incredibly open­minded, some can’t, even after they have repeatedly encountered lots of pain from betting that they were right when they were not.

 

 

 

 

독자적으로 생각하고 자신이 믿는 것을 위해 싸우는 것도 중요하지만, 

자신의 생각을 위해 싸우는 것을 중단하고, 신뢰할 수 있는 집단이 가장 좋다고 생각하는 것을 받아들이는 쪽으로 나아가는 것이 현명한 때가 온다.     이것은 매우 어려울 수 있다. 

하지만 여러분이 마음을 열고 신뢰할 수 있는 집단의 결론이 여러분이 생각하는 어떤 것보다 낫다는 믿음을 갖는 것이 더 영리하고 궁극적으로 더 좋다. 

만약 여러분이 그들의 생각을 이해할 수 없다면, 여러분은 아마도 단지 그들이 생각하는 방식을 보지 못하는 것이다. 

모든 증거와 신뢰할 수 있는 사람들이 당신에게 반대할 때 당신이 최선이라고 생각하는 것을 계속한다면, 

당신은 위험할 정도로 자신감에 차 있는 것이다.

사실 대부분의 사람들은 믿을 수 없을 정도로 마음을 열게 되는 반면에,

어떤 사람들은 자신이 옳지 않았을 때 옳았다고 확신하는 것으로부터 많은 고통을 겪고 난 후에도 그럴 수 없다는 것이다.
