❶ The last two decades of research on the science of learning have shown conclusively that we remember things better, and longer, if we discover them ourselves rather than being told them.

❷ This is the teaching method practiced by physics professor Eric Mazur.

❸ He doesn’t lecture in his classes at Harvard.

❹ Instead, he asks students difficult questions, based on their homework reading, that require them to pull together sources of information to solve a problem.

❺ Mazur doesn’t give them the answer; instead, he asks the students to break off into small groups and discuss the problem among themselves.

❻ Eventually, nearly everyone in the class gets the answer right, and the concepts stick with them because they had to find their own way to the answer.

❸ [ 강의를 하지 않음 ]   그는 하버드 수업에서 (설명식) 강의를 하지 않습니다.

❹ [ 학생들에게 어려운 질문을 제시 ]   대신, 학생들에게 숙제에서 독서 활동 과제를 바탕으로 정보를 모아 문제를 해결해야 하는 어려운 질문을 던진다.

❺ [ 정답을 주지 않음 ]    마주르는 학생들에게 정답을 알려주지 않고, 대신 작은 그룹으로 나누어 그들끼리 문제를 토론하게 요구한다.

❻ [ 스스로 찾은 답이 오래 남음]   결국, 거의 모든 학생이 정답을 맞히게 되며, 그들이 직접 답을 찾았기 때문에 개념이 더 오래 기억된다.
