# The act of saving for future rewards and the weakness of will

❶ Many human and non-human animals save commodities or money for future consumption.

❷ This behavior seems to reveal a preference of a delayed reward over an immediate one:

    the agent gives up some immediate pleasure in exchange for a future one.

❸ Thus the discounted value of the future reward should be greater than the un-discounted value of the present one.   

❹ However, in some cases the agent does not wait for the envisioned occasion but uses their savings prematurely.

❺ For example, early in the year an employee might set aside money to buy Christmas presents but then spend it on a summer vacation instead.

❻ Such cases could be examples of weakness of will. 

❼ That is, the agents may judge or resolve to spend their savings in a certain way for the greatest benefit but then act differently when temptation for immediate pleasure  appears.

# 미래의 보상을 위해 저축하는 행위와 의지의 약함

❶ 많은 인간과 인간이 아닌 동물은 물건이나 돈을 미래의 소비를 위해 저축한다.

❷ 이러한 행동은 즉각적인 보상보다 지연된 보상을 선호하는 것을 드러내는 듯 하다. 즉, 행위자는 미래의 보상을 위해 당장의 쾌락을 포기하는 것이다.

❸ 그러므로 미래 보상의 하락된 가치는 하락되지 않은 현재의 가치보다 더 커야만 한다.

❹ 그러나, 어떤 경우 행위자가 계획한 일을 기다리지 않고 그들의 저축을 조기에 사용하는 경우도 있다.

❺ 예를 들어, 연초에 한 직원이 자기 돈을 크리스마스 선물을 사기 위해 모아두었지만 대신 여름 휴가에 사용할 수 있다.

❻ 이러한 사례는 의지의 약함의 예시가 될 수 있다.

❼ 즉, 행위자는 그들의 저축을 가장 큰 이익을 위해 특정 방식으로 사용하기로 판단하거나 결심했으나 즉각적인 즐거움에 대한 유혹이 생기면 다르게 행동할 수도 있다.
