❶ ‘Research has shown that...’ is a phrase often used to persuade the listener that the speaker can back up what he or she is saying with firm empirical evidence.

❷  However, it is extremely vague to claim that  ‘research has shown’ anything unless you can back up the claim with specific details about the research. 

❸ Who carried out this research?

❹ What methods did they use?

❺ What precisely did they find?

❻ Have their results been confirmed by other workers in the field?

❼ These are the sorts of questions which anyone who uses this phrase should be able to answer.

❽ If they can’t then there is no reason to be persuaded by the phrase, which is then empty of content.

❶ ‘연구가...’라는 것을 보여 주었다‘는 화자가 확실한 실증적 증거를 통해 자신이 말하고 있는 것을 뒷받침할 수 있다는 것을 청자에게 설득하기 위해 흔히 사용되는 문구이다. 

❷ 그러나 어떤 것을 ’연구가 보여 주었다‘고 주장하는 것은 여러분이 그 연구에 관한 구체적인 세부사항을 통해 그 주장을 뒷받침할 수 없다면 극도로 모호하다. 

❸ 누가 이 연구를 수행했는가?

❹ 그들은 어떤 방법을 사용했는가?

❺ 정확히 그들은 무엇을 찾아냈는가?

❻ 그들의 결과가 그 분야에 있는 다른 연구자들에 의해 확인되었는가? 

❼ 이것들은 이 문구를 사용하는 어떤 사람이든 답할 수 있어야 하는 종류의 질문들이다.

❽ 만일 그들이 그럴 수 없다면, 그 문구에 의해 설득되어야 할 이유가 없는 것이고, 그러면 이는 내용이 비어 있는 것이다.
