❶ We are now

❶ 우리는 이제 와 있다

at a point of unprecedented genetic, cultural, and environmental power as a species,

한 종으로서 전례 없는 유전적, 문화적, 환경적 힘의 시점에 

and we are linked to early every other person on Earth.

우리는 지구상의 다른 모든 사람과 서로 연결되어 있다. 

 

 

❷ We are embodied individuals trapped within limited time,

❷ 우리는  육체를 지닌 개인들이다.

제한된 시간 안에 갇혀 있는

but  we are also networked data streams, memories, and influencers, and part of a grander humanity.

그러나   우리는 또한 서로 연결된 데이터 흐름이자 기억이며 영향력을 미치는 존재이고,

더 큰 인류의 일부이기도 하다.  

 

❸ Our decisions today

❸ 오늘 우리의 결정들은 

have far-reaching impacts

광범위한 영향력을 가진다. 

that place a responsibility on us

우리에게 책임을 주는

to become good ancestors,

좋은 조상이 될 (책임)

to take the long view and time travel forward

 장기적인 관점을 취할 (책임) 

그리고 (시간을 앞으로 이동시키듯) 미래로 나아갈 (책임)

to imagine the well-being of billions of people

수십억 사람들의 행복을 상상하기 위해

whose lives will be lived in the world (that) we are currently making.

우리가 현재 만들어가고 있는 세계에서 살아가게 될  

❹ Centuries ago,

❹ 수세기 전에 

leaders of the native North American Iroquois people

북아메리카 원주민 이로쿼이족의 지도자들은 ‘

created “seven generation stewardship,”

7세대 책임’이라는 개념을 만들어, 

instructing people to consider the impact of every decision on their children, seven generations into the future.

 지시했다.  

사람들에게

모든 결정이 미래의 7세대에 걸친 자녀들에게 미칠 영향을 고려하도록

❺ In the precious few decades that Earth is ours,

❺ 지구가 우리에게 주어진 이 소중한 몇십 년 동안, 

while  we enjoy the gardens planted by our ancestors,

우리가 조상들이 심어 놓은 정원을 누리는 동안, 

we must not steal the shade from our descendants.

우리는 우리의 후손들로부터 그늘을 빼앗아서는 안 된다.
